Engineering Aesthetics
Project Leader: Matt Fussell (Visual Art faculty, RJ Reynolds High School)
Project Description: Students will explore the aesthetics of regulation within the considerations of physics in the creation of architectural structures. Architecture is often judged solely for its final appearance, but unlike other forms of art, outside rules and regulations, including the role of the physics of structural integrity, and environmental factors, have an enormous impact on the final form and appearance of a building. Students in both a Visual Arts class and a Physics class at Reynolds high school will explore these issues through hands-on design, culminating with a student building competition.
